Blogs or Build Web Sites?

An email came in about blogs and one question asked was why I had not posted in a year or more.

The best answer I could give is that:

  • I had built no less than 3 of my own business websites
  • Well over 100 pages total
  • Maintained them in that length of time, plus clients
  • In fact CannonFire launched our largest marketing campaign ever to over 30,000 law firms across the nation.

Sure, I built some when Google Blogger came out and had some success in ranking at Google.

But the names captured for those have been abandoned for real reasons. At least and for sure, for now. Because...

  • Constant blogging will wear you down.
  • I got no satisfaction from making "little" post all the time.
  • Post only showed the latest, not necessarily the Best I had to say.
  • It was easy to lose focus on a topic, even those topics dear to me.
  • As a webmaster, I don't like the navigation blogs use, especially the no keyword page names.
  • And in some ways, I don't think they do what the new Google SEO Starter Guide says to do.

Yes, I agree, there have been improvements in optimizing a blog. Yes I agree that some businesses can benefit from them too. But I also say those companies best have tons of daily news to deliver. The blogs I see with top rankings have mega post to have enough content for ranking.

To be fair, I admit they have their own purpose. But I agree they are not the way to build business. I'm sure it's likely someone has but compare to 40,000 good websites just little me knows about.

All of that stuff made me ask myself why not just build quality content websites that do rank well, prove my seo skills and bring the traffic I need to get new business.

And one more thing... My web page on Google Blogger (type in free google blogs at Google) ranks 3rd in 142,000,000 results and Google is 1st and 2nd. Sometimes I'm 2nd! That one page generates well over 600 visitors a month to this website. My blog(s) never came within 10% of that when they were maintained! Based on that traffic, apparently many people want them, but I do wonder why.

SO... Blogs or sites? You decide here.
